a little about me

and my 'why'

Every morning, for four months, he made me a cup of tea when I got to work.

I didn't know him well, but he had worked with my dad for a number of years and, like all the other guys who worked there, he assured the bosses that he would look out for me but, more importantly, wouldn't 'try' anything.
What happened after four months? Well, he got up the nerve to ask me out. Two years later, I was married to him.

John and I have been married for eight years now and he has made me a cup of tea every morning we've been together.

There's something about those little 'traditions', those moments together that no one else sees, that makes me really appreciate marriage on another level, but also those moments we take for granted; the ones that made us fall in love in the first place.

When I piece together our love story, what I thought it was, isn't really that at all.

After eight years, it's come to feel like our marriage is all about the kids, remembering 'all the things', constantly reminding each other of birthdays and appointments, never really knowing if the other is listening. But when I take it all apart and look at the pieces individually, it's not that at all. It's the cup of tea that he's brought me, every single morning, for over ten years; the way he casually asks me what needs to be done in the morning so he can let me sleep in; how he stays up with me after every wedding so I can pull an all-nighter and cull through all the images from that day. But, mostly, it's how he does all of these things and never asks for anything in return. I will go my entire life knowing that he gave our marriage as many 'little moments' as he possibly could, and that's priceless.

That's why I love being a wedding photographer and portrait photographer; I get to find all those little moments and showcase them for you and your loved ones. It's my favourite thing in the world.
